Berks Opera lost a dear friend, Stuart Cohn, recently. He was one of our most faithful supporters throughout our history and a board member for many years. His love of music, so well described in other tributes, extended wholeheartedly to opera as well. He knew most of the grand operas, had discerning tastes, and was familiar with the artistry of the finest singers of the day. He could probably tell you who starred in Carmen and La Bohème when he saw them at the Met 60 years ago.
Just a few weeks before he passed away, he attended one of our events and heard a young soprano beautifully sing a difficult and touching Mozart aria. I could see how the music, her voice and her artistry went straight to his heart. Stu really “got it.”
We miss him sorely. If every audience were filled with Stu Cohns, what a wonderful world it would be.
